When you are making life-changing decisions, or just want to know what to eat for Breakfast, these decisions are all because of our amazing Brain! You can think of your brain as the command center for everything. They allow you to make split decisions to better your chances of survival.
Your brain is one of the most complex organs in your body made up of 100 billion nerves that work together to complete daily actions. Our brain then takes those 100 billion nerves and communicates to each other in tiny connections called synapses. Our brain takes on different functions that work together to keep us alive.
There are many functions of the brain, some of the major functions include: releasing hormones, regulating blood pressure and breathing, and processing sensory information. Our brain is broken up into multiple sections of the brain, each of these sections is responsible for a certain action.
The parts of the brain include the Cerebrum, Brainstem, Cerebellum, Pons, Medulla, Spinal cord, Frontal lobe, Parietal lobe, Occipital lobe, Temporal lobe. Below are the functions of the Parts of the Brain.
Cerebrum: initiating movement, coordination, temperature, touch, vision, hearing, judgment, reasoning, problem-solving, emotions, and learning.
Brainstem: movement of the eyes and mouth, relaying sensory messages (the feeling of hot, cold, loud, etc.)
Cerebellum: coordinate voluntary muscle movements and to provide instructions for posture and balance.
Pons: Found at the deepest part of the brain, and located in the brainstem, is the control area for eye and face movements.
Medulla: The lowest part of the brainstem, one of the most important parts that control the function of the heart and lungs.
Spinal cord- The spinal cord connects from the brain to the lower back, its main function is to mimic a messenger, sending information to all parts of the body.
Frontal lobe: It is responsible for personality characteristics and movement. Recognition of smell is a big part of its daily tasks. This can be found in the front of the brain
Parietal lobe: It is responsible for identifying objects and recognizing pain and touch.
Occipital lobe: Its main function is to aid vision, the Occipital Lobe is found at the back of the Brain.
Temporal Lobe: The temporal lobe is responsible for short-term memory, speech, musical rhythm. It can be found on the sides of the brain.
Each of the parts of the brain is responsible for a certain task, just like different jobs in a company. Without one person doing their role, the whole system falls apart. Similarly, without different people working together some goals will not be met. Just like our brain and how all the parts of the brain work together to complete their tasks. For example, let's say you just won a Science Fair, your brain will be hard at work taking that information and sending it throughout your body, your
Cerebrum will be hard at work processing your emotions, your brainstem will help you talk, the Cerebellum will help you stay upright and stay balanced. The pons will be focusing on helping you smile, The medulla will help you to control your heart and lungs and to provide oxygen throughout your body. The Spinal Cord will be sending information to the body to react and to start clapping.
The Occipital will help you see where you are going, and finally, the temporal Lobe will help you speak as you receive your award. This is a great example of how your brain takes the information and works together as a team to do simple tasks we do not think about. Now that you know everything you need to know about your brain. Now you may be asking Why do we need a brain..?
Our brain is our defining factor, it tells us what to speak, what we see, and how we interact with our surroundings. It is one of the few things that can not be transplanted, but scientists now are trying to figure out a safe and effective way of transplanting a brain. That is why injuries to the head are very serious and it is important to keep our brain protected at all times. In conclusion, our brain is hard at work at this moment keeping us safe and helping us to make decisions that can help us function every day.
